The Virginia Pi chapter (Christopher Newport University) of Sigma Phi Epsilon attended the Carlson Leadership Academy in Atlanta, GA this past weekend. 15 brothers attended the conference, including each of our eight current executive board members and seven brothers interested in running for the executive board in the future. The group attended a two day leadership conference hosted by the national branch Sigma Phi Epsilon, and learned both interactive leadership skills and specific skills tailored to each executive board position. Throughout the weekend our chapter gained important knowledge on recruitment, programming, finance, communication, and development among countless other talents that will help us improve our chapter and our school.
Brothers not only gained vital skills to help our chapter, but also had the chance to interact with hundreds of brothers from chapters all over the South-East region of the United States. This experience allowed us to bond with other fraternity men and have meaningful conversations about the best ways to run a chapter and share our experiences and ideas with one another.
In addition to our 15 undergraduate brothers in attendance was Sigma Phi Epsilon Virginia Pi Renaissance brother Vice Provost Robert Colvin, who was awarded in front of the entire conference with the ‘University Partner of the Year’ award, a proud moment for both our chapter and our school. This was one of the best parts of a weekend that was filled with standout moments. Overall it was an incredibly successful weekend for our brothers and one that we hope to build from for the remainder of 2019.
